Gas — Nitrous Oxide (Relative Analgesia)
This analgesic option gives a light, sedative effect. A mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen is delivered to the patient during treatment via a small nose mask. The dose is monitored for each patient and adjusted individually to provide the required amount of relaxation.
The relaxant effect rapidly disappears after the nose mask is removed, allowing patients to go about their normal activities immediately following treatment and can be successful for anxious children.
Penthrox® (Inhalation Sedation)
To provide you some extra support and having you extra relaxed, we can offer Penthrox®, a self-administered methoxyflurane inhaler. It is an easy to use, non-opioid alternative to morphine for anxiety and pain control. It is widely used in emergency medicine and safe for most people.
The effects pass soon after ceasing use, so you will be safe and able to continue normal activities after using Penthrox® with us.
Good to know
We are patient and give you the time and attention you need to address your concerns. And sometimes, simply good communication by our team to make sure you understand what is happening (why you need treatment, what treatment is proposed) and knowing what to expect, can be enough to alleviate much of the stress associated with the visit and sedation is not required.
Many of our patients have happily overcome their fears and anxiety, and subsequent visits become increasingly less unpleasant and stress-inducing. Hence, the reason for neglect and denial of essential professional care is eliminated – this is brings our team great joy and satisfaction when this roadblock to health is removed.
